Halima Hamza Malam

Niger Country Director

Halima, a native of Niger, holds an MBA and an MS in Education from Empire State University in Kansas. She has worked tirelessly for the improvement of women's lives in West Africa, initiating women's savings and loan associations as well as programs in women's enterprise and education. 

  

Maghas Assaleck

Agadez Regional Coordinator

Maghas holds degrees in accounting and business management.  His background includes training in management, community health and hygiene, cooperative and community development, and vocational training for numerous organizations in Niger, including the French Red Cross, HED Tamat, and the International Travel Bureau.  He also led several training courses in the management of cereal banks and organizational communication, as well as several community awareness campaigns.  Maghas is fluent in Tamashek, Hausa and French. He is married with three children.

Gaston Kaba

RAIN Representative

Gaston has served as the Director of the Health Program with the Peace Corps, for which he has also been commissioned as a Language Instructor and Training Director. From 2001 to 2008 he implemented more than 60 development and humanitarian projects in the Sub Sahara region.  He has served as the Special Assistant to the Director of USAID/Niger in Policy and Programming; he has also served as Secretary General for the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Technology in Niamey, Niger.  He speaks English, French and Hausa. He's married with three children. 

Abdourahamane Koini 

Agriculture Specialist

Abdou holds a degree in Agronomy from Usman Dan Fodio University in Nigeria. He has served for two years in the Niger government’s agriculture service, and has worked with various NGO’s before joining RAIN in 2008. 

Abdou Adamou

Tillaberi Regional Coordinator

Abdou is an NGO program manager experienced in rural development. He is certified in Administration and Cooperative Enterprise Management by ISPEC (Institut Superieur Panafricane d'Economie Cooperative). He is currently studying Project Management at the Institute of Computer Science, Economics and Management in Niamey. In his ten years plus of NGO experience, he has worked directly with rural nomadic communities in the Tillaberi region of Niger, in areas of community health programming, anti-malaria efforts, education committee organization, capacity building and local development planning. He has also served as liaison between communities and both local and national government for many rural development projects.

The Cure Salee (Salt Cure), or "Festival of the Nomads" is a yearly gathering of the Tuareg and Wodaabe peoples in the salt flats in Ingall. Marking the end of the rainy season, it's an occasion of celebration to restore herds before traveling south.
